In an interview with Kimi Raikonnen, world champion of FIA Grand Prix F1 2010, he is still reeling from shock from the inaugural 2011 Singapore F1 race last week. Apparently all the other racers were reeling in shocked as well. The race was eventually won by a Singaporean, Wah Kia Su driving a Proton-Temasek car.
Kimi claimed that Singapore is indeed filled with weird rules. For example, he did not obtain a COE from LTA for his Ferrari and hence was penalised by starting from the pits. The only team that appropriately applied for the COE (which is necessary for any car to be on the road in Singapore) was BMW-Sauber-Petronas combo. Apparently BMW had some spare COE from their Singapore office. McLaren was also seen to be unhappy with the stewarts decision.
Among other things which teams were unhappy about was being fined $500 for littering. Apparently Fernando Alonso has been summoned and will be forced to do a public cleaning in due course. He will be “shamed” for being a litter bug after throwing a finished bottle of mineral water on the floor.
Drivers were also unhappy that the pace car, that came out on lap 19 after a massive crash in front of the Esplanade was keeping to the legal street limit of Singapore. Apparently the driver was a weekend car driver who has very little experience in driving.
Felipe Massa was quoted in saying that the fine for not having an IU unit on the dashboard of his car was ridiculous. Most drivers agreed that the rules for Singapore future race should be spelt out accurately in future to prevent any further misunderstanding.
